The Heritage at Risk series (World Report on Monuments and Sites in Danger) was launched in 1999 by ICOMOS International at the General Assembly in Mexico. The aim was to provide up-to-date information to the public about the most severe threats to cultural heritage, including the World Heritage, to introduce representative case studies and if possible offer solution approaches. For this purpose, the national and scientific committees of ICOMOS are asked each time to prepare reports.
Since 2000, several Heritage at Risk volumes with a wide range of national and thematic reports have been published; furthermore, "special editions" on the Soviet architectural heritage, on underwater heritage, and on threats to the cultural heritage caused by natural disasters.

All volumes of this series can either be read online or downloaded as pdf files (see links "Download der Publikation im PDF-Format"). In addition, these volumes are also available as e-journals on the periodicals portal of the University Library Heidelberg. There, the essays/articles can be downloaded individually and the authors and titles are searchable. Click here for the e-journals of this series.
